Do all weddings have to have a theme? The answer is no, but in having a theme, it seems to be a bit easier to put all the pieces together. Think of the popular “Cinderella Theme” ~ what are your first thoughts? Magical, dreamy, romantic? Now think of a “Beach Theme” and your thoughts may be of outdoors, sunshine, ocean waves, sea-shells, and flowing fabrics.

My husband and I had decided that we would be married on our property so we knew we were going to have an outdoor wedding. I’m a romantic and he is an outdoors kind of guy ~ it just fit. We both knew we wanted an elegant yet comfortable wedding where our guest would enjoy a wonderful day complete with music, food, drinks and laughter, but exactly what was the theme? It seemed to be a conglomeration of many different details and how to combine all our wants seemed to be the question. What we decided on was a Tuscan, romantic, garden style wedding theme. No, not just one theme, but a few combined to create the vision that was perfect for us. Did this take a lot of planning, re-thinking and re-evaluating? Most definitely, but it was so worth it!

Think of the seasons and when you will be married. Spring with cherry blossoms, birds, and bright daffodils into Summer bringing butterflies, beach, boats, daisies, Fourth of July, rose covered gazebos, parks, zoos, and garden type themes. Fall has the beautiful changing autumn leaves, vineyard celebrations, Halloween, Thanksgiving, pumpkins and a rustic time of year. Winter brings the magical winter wonderland complete with ice, snowflakes, fur, deep colors of warmth with jewel tones. There’s twinkling lights, crackling fires, and that every popular Christmas and Valentine theme.
Look at art galleries, beaches, boats, destinations, farms, parks, lakes, lodges, restaurants, museums, and zoos for inspiration of your venue. You just may be surprised that your theme will come from your location as well.
Let you imagination dream of your perfect day. Make a list of your different themes, your wants and needs; you will be surprised that even writing the pros and cons of each theme will help you in making this big decision. No matter what you chose, make sure your wedding portrays you and your wants. Remember, this is your special day!
